The Coeur d’Alene Airport in northern Idaho, has been witnessing an increased traffic recently, says airport manager.
According to Greg Delavan, Kootenai County’s airport manager, the increase is due to the popularity of timeshare jets. The increased traffic the airport is currently witnessing, according to Delavan, is due to the influx of private jets, coming through the airport. The airport now gets about 6 jets an hours, says Delavan.
Private jets’ ease of boarding and flexible schedule were cited by the airport official as the reasons more people are using private jets these days. Even those who can’t afford to buy prefer charter services. But more common these days are the timeshare jets. With Timeshare jets, business organizations and individuals are offered shares in buying a jet to reduce costs.
One of the frequent users of the airport is the actor John Travolta who flies in with his small jet or his larger Boeing 707 airliner to visit his sister.
"We went from a lot of small, general aviation planes that people used for their own transportation, flight training, into the jet age," Greg Delavan, Kootenai County’s airport manager, told the Coeur d’Alene Press.
The Coeur d’Alene Airport has no tower to direct pilots; pilots just announce on a common radio frequency what they plan to do next. But, according to Delavan, there are plans in the near future to build a tower.
