Gulfstream senior international captains Sean Sheldon and Larry S. Mueller and demonstrational captain Edward Faciszewski set off on a flight from the Auckland International Airport in New Zealand at 10:25 a.m. March 26. They piloted the G550 5,097 nautical miles to Hong Kong in just 11 hours and 32 minutes after take off. This is currently the fastest record city-pair speed record for these two locations.
They didn’t stop there. Four days later, the same crew, again piloting the G550 began its flight in Hong Kong at 11:26 a.m. and flew 6,597 nautical miles to the McCarran International Airport. This flight took 11 hours and 32 minutes to reach its destination. This is also a new city-pair speed record.
These new records will need to be validated by the National Aeronautic Association before they can be classified as new records. Gulfstream Inc. has already supplied the NAA with the appropriate data in hopes of confirming these new city-pair records.
It is worth noting that each flight completed with more than 4,000 pounds of fuel remaining. The G550 is designed for ultra-long-range commutes, and has one of the largest cabin areas of all manufactured aircrafts.
