A decade ago ownership of a private jet meant that you were seriously wealthy. These planes were not for your ordinary millionaires, and the cost was so prohibitively high, not too many people even dreamed of having their own.
All that has changed thanks to a new generation of light weight single pilot private jets. A private jet will never be cheap, but with prices now down to as low as 1.5 million, they’re far more accessible than they’ve ever been.
These private jets are often single pilot planes, and are more often than not piloted by the owners. The time investment needed to achieve pilot’s certification as a solo pilot is intensive, but for many people, represents the fulfillment of a life’s dream.
There are about a dozen corporations currently offering these next generation very light private jets. Diamond aircraft is asking just 1.36 million for its five seat D-jet, although prices can climb to three or four million for some seven or eight seat very light jets.
One of the best known of these new planes is the new Cessna Mustang. These planes are brand new and the first customers are just now getting the keys to their new toys at a price of about 2.6 million a pop. Honda has also entered the foray; and the car maker is now offering a very light jet HondaJet that will seat seven.
Even if one and a half million seems like a lot of money, you might still benefit from these lower priced private jets. There are a host of new companies that are buying these very light private jets and opening either charter services or fractional ownership style businesses. There is currently a great and seemingly growing frustration with standard commercial air travel, and many corporations are finding it cost effective to use private jets. The dollar cost may be higher, but these executives value the ease of use, convenience and hours saved by avoiding bothersome commercial air travel.
Save your pennies and you too may one day have the privilege of piloting your very own private very light weight jet.
