The safety record of business jet safety incidents overall in the UK does not match up with the claims of the corporate sector business aviation.
According to UK navigation service provider NATS, 3.5% of airspace movements are made by business jets; however, 16% were level bust incidents. Of the most dangerous errors, 10% were attributed to business jets.
The safety division chief of NATS, Richard Schofield, also chided business jet “gross navigational errors†in the Shanwick Atlantic Ocean region. Even runway incursions, which predominantly occur at London’s Heathrow International Airport, disproportionately involve business jets.
Schofield said that he was bringing these statistics to everyone’s attention in an effort to prevent tragedy before it occurs. His greatest concern was that the numbers for business jet involvement are getting worse, and that as they continue to do so many business jet passengers are simply flying on borrowed time.
