Boeing Hopes To Generate 4000 Jobs In California

May 30, 2007

Boeing announced recently that if selected to build the US air force’s new tanker fleet, it would result in 4000 new California jobs, and a total investment into the region of 175 million dollars annually into the California economy.

Governor Schwarzenegger commended Boeing for its decision to base the jobs in California.

The aviation company submitted its proposal to the Air Force on April 10th. The new tanker to be developed will allow for aerial refueling of other aircraft, but will also be an effective cargo and personnel mover. Boeing claims that they offer the best fuel efficiency, global flexibility and best size out of any of the company’s that delivered proposals to the Air Force.

Companies in California are scheduled to supply the tanker hardware and software, if Boeing is selected for the contract. They will work on other refueling and environmental components as well.

Boeing reports that the contract will create an estimated 44 000 jobs nation wide, and will be designed and built entirely with American workers and American suppliers.
The Tanker is scheduled to be assembled at Boeings facility in Everett Wash. The new plane will use many of the same manufacturing facilities and processes as do commercial Boeing 767s. The military equipment installation, and flight testing is scheduled to be performed at the company’s facility in Wichita Kan.

Boeing has been designing and building tankers for the Air Force for over 75 years, and hopes that their wealth of experience and great track record will win them the lucrative contract.
