Corporate and private jets are taking up too much space and time at New York airports according to the Federal Aviation Administration causing severe delays for commercial flights. New York City airports have seen one too many delayed and canceled flights this year. This problem has rippled all throughout the East Coast.
This July 4th, the Airport Association is calling for private and corporate jet to be delayed. This association that represents American Airlines Corporation and United Airlines Corporation argue that these private and corporate flights are not often subjected to the same delays that consume commercial flights into John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in New York.
Naturally, the National Business Aviation Association strongly disagrees. They argue that private and corporate aircraft are not to blame. Instead heavy air traffic produced by bad weather, understaffed flight crews and other factors are the culprit.
Steve Brown, senior VP at NBAA, said, “The FAA is not playing favorites. The agency does delay private flights due to heavy air traffic or threatening weather. In addition, private jets aren’t the cause of late commercial flights.â€
A whopping 38% of all flights at LaGuardia, Newark Liberty and Kennedy were canceled or late between January and April of this year.
