Avianca receives first Airbus A330200

October 3, 2008

Columbia’s largest airline, Avianca, has taken delivery of its first Airbus A330-200. This is the first of ten A330 aircrafts that will be delivered by Airbus to Avianca. The delivery is part of Avianca’s 57 aircraft orders (47 A320 family aircrafts and 10 A330-200s), which was put forth early last year. In addition to that, Avianca’s main stake holder—the Synergy Group— has placed an order for ten more A350XWBs.

The airline will use the A330 to charter flights in Europe, and in some parts of the Americas. The A330 can accommodate up to 280 passengers to be distributed in a luxurious two-class configuration cabin. The plane is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent772B engines.

This year, the Columbian airline has already received one A320 and three A319s. These purchases are part of Avianca’s mass fleet renewal programme. Before the end of 2008, Avianca will receive another A320, one more A319 and an A330-200.
