Volaris, a low-fare airline based in Mexico, has received its first delivery of Airbus A320s.
According to a press release from the Airbus, the first delivery was handed to Volaris’ Chairman Pedro Aspe during a ceremony in Toulouse, Mexico. The ceremony was presided by Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders.
Originally, Volaris purchased 16, then new, A319s in January 2006. In 2007, the Mexican airline renewed the order, adding 14 A320s. Since its launch in 2006, Volaris has operated with an Airbus fleet. It currently operates with 18 A319s, which now operate in an extended air route.
The Airbus A320 has a single class capacity of 174 passengers. Powering the plane are two IAE V2500 engines. The A320 will be chartering flights in high density routes from the Toluca hub.
