Embraer, a Brazil based aircraft manufacturer, is now considering whether to develop a larger commercial planes, which will put them in competition with major manufacturers Boeing and Airbus.
“Whether we should develop a larger plane, alone or with partners, is something that we will have to decide,” commented Antonio Luiz Pizarro Manso, chief financial officer of Embraer, “Right now, we think the market is well supplied by the existing models, the (Boeing) 737 and the (Airbus) A320. So our strategy is to wait a bit, especially to see what kind of engine can be developed for such a project.”
On the other hand, Canada’s Bombardier—regional rival of Embraer—has already joined the large commercial plane industry. Bombardier’s CSeries plane has a seating capacity of 130 passengers, which puts it in direct competition with the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320.
