Boeing has delayed the cargo version of the 747 jumbo by nine months, due to the instabilities caused by the recent strike. Executives have decided to slowly restore operations to the normal pace, instead of rushing to meet previously made plans.
As narrated in Airwise News, “The delay, caused by design changes and lack of resources at a stretched Boeing, along with the 58 day strike, comes on top of continuing problems with the new 787 Dreamliner, which is already about 18 months behind schedule.”
Last Friday, a company spokesperson said that the first 747-8 Freighter will be delivered on the third quarter of 2010, instead of the previously promised date of 2009. The delay will affect many airlines that have pending orders, including: Japan’s Nippon Cargo Airlines and Luxembourg’s Cargolux Airlines.
Some analysts say that the delay can also favor the airline customers of Boeing. Since, the current financial crisis is likely to bring down the prices of deliveries around the world. Boeing and cargo operators hope that the economy would be in some form of recovery by 2010.
