Federal regulators initiate 737 aircraft checks

November 19, 2008

US federal regulators have issued an emergency safety mandate to check fuel pumps in over 560 Boeing 737 airliners operated by the US airlines.

As of press time, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was not available for comment and confirmation. However, a report by the Wall Street Journal asserts that the affected aircrafts will not likely be grounded.

The inspections are meant to ensure that the fuel pumps are turned off correctly. Failure to do so may cause in airplane shorts, fires, and even explosions.
