Delta Airlines plans to expand aircraft order from Boeing

December 1, 2008

Delta Airlines, which recently acquired Northwest Airlines, is planning to change aircraft orders both airlines recently placed from Boeing.

Most likely, Delta Airlines will scale back Boeing 787 orders initiated by Northwest, while planning to expand Delta orders for the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.

The 777-200LR is a long-range aircraft that has a seating capacity of at least 50 more passengers. This aircraft will help Delta’s strategy to shift a greater percentage of flights to longer overseas routes.

However, there is no final word regarding the changes of the orders.

A change in orders is unlikely to affect Boeing as it has numerous orders for the 787. Furthermore, Delta Airlines wants to expand their orders for the expensive 777-200LR, which should be beneficial to the aircraft manufacturer.

A Boeing spokesperson asserted that the aircraft manufacturer remains to be in contact with its customers to ensure fast and reliable service.
