Virgin Group’s V Australia recently purchased a Boeing 777-300ER, which is the first to go to an Australian carrier. This is one of seven 777-300ERs V Australia bought to deploy through trans-Pacific and other routes.
The turnover was met by a Boeing Field ceremony, attended by Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson, as well as several executives from the airline.
“This 777 completes the circle for guests wanting to fly around the world on the unique service provided by Virgin Group airlines,” said Brett Godfrey, chief executive at Virgin Group. “The combination of Virgin service and the 777′s passenger appeal will be a winner on the South Pacific. We’re doubly pleased to be flying the most fuel-efficient aircraft in its class.”
The V Australia 777-300ER has a seating capacity of 361 passengers in three configurations: business, premium economy, and economy. The aircraft also sports state-of-the-art entertainment systems.
“It is a great day to see this 777-300ER take on the job it was designed for,” said Stan Deal, VP of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Asia Pacific Sales. “V Australia will be first with 777 service on the Sydney-Los Angeles route—exactly why we built this airplane. We congratulate V Australia for its visionary role.”
To date, 1,100 777’s have been ordered by 56 customers at the global scale, making it the most successful twin-engine twin-aisle airplane in the market.
