Kansas Senator Defends Private Jet Industry

February 13, 2009

According to a recent report by Associated Press, “Senator Sam Brownback says criticism of businesses that use private planes just doesn’t fly anymore.”

The Kansas Republican intends to correct the current tarnished image of the private jet. Brownback reminds the public that the private jet industry is also suffering from the economic recession.

The senator noted that these planes do not represent avarice. They represent employment for over 1.2 million Americans. Not to mention, private aviation contributes over $149 billion to the US economy.

Last month, newly instated President Barrack Obama scrutinized CitiGroup for purchasing a private jet while receiving a federal rescue package. The company then cancelled its order, which it had placed way back in 2005.

Kansas has one of the largest private aviation industries in the country. This state has several private jet manufacturers, especially in Wichita. Needless to say, the poor economy has really taken Kansas’ employment level down. And to add insult to injury, the workers and the companies have to stand and watch as their means to living is persecuted by public opinion and politics.
