PNC CEO uses Corporate Jet to go to Super Bowl

February 13, 2009

PNC Financial Services Group CEO Jim Rohr is under fire for using a corporate jet to travel to and from Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Fla. Apparently, Rohr traveled with clients to see their home team, now NFL Champions, Pittsburgh Steelers.

In a statement, PNC claimed that Rohr was required to travel via private jet for security reasons.

PNC recently received a $7.7 billion rescue package from the TARP or Troubled Asset Relief Program. TARP puts limits on executive compensation, which also includes restraints for travel and entertainment expenses.

TARP beneficiaries have begun cutting down on expenses, and it looks like PNC will be joining the fray. Bank of America Corp. CEO Ken Lewis recently attended congressional hearings. Lewis traveled via train. Another example is Citigroup Inc., which cancelled plans to purchase a new jet.

While many companies begin streamlining their travel costs, including companies who have not received rescue packages, the private jet industry continues to struggle.
