RBS Exec wanted £31 Jet

March 23, 2009

Former Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) chief executive Sir Fred Goodwin was trying hard to secure a new £30.9million private jet until his departure, as it was reported last week.

A French firm has reported that Sir Fred has been persistently trying to purchase a Falcon 7X jet for the travel uses of RBS senior executives.

After receiving a multi-billion bail-out, the government is now the majority stakeholder of RBS.

Five years ago, RBS ordered an ultra-modern long-range Falcon 7X from Dassault Aviation, a French aircraft manufacturer.

Due to unfavorable economic conditions, RBS cancelled the order. Even more than that, the bank said it plans to sell its current jet.

Aside from this incident, Sir Fred is also involved in another controversy. The former executive received £16.6million, which he refuses to give back despite the company’s current economic situation.
