Connectivity options are expanding for Business Jet operators

May 11, 2009

New connectivity options that will enable passengers to send and receive text messages and e-mails, browse the internet, and make cell phone calls during flights are being adopted by numerous airlines.

Business aviation has shown strong growth in airborne communication providers as technological advancements have expanded options for operators.

Aircell recently announced that private jet club Jet Republic has selected its SwiftBroadband solution for 110 Bombardier Learjet 60XR aircrafts. This is the largest SwiftBroadband system ever placed.

The satellite-based SwiftBroadband system uses Inmarsat’s higher-bandwidth aeronautical service, which provides a pipe to the aircraft that can be used for cabin and operational purposes almost anywhere in the world.

“For customers with global connectivity needs, our new SwiftBroadband system is the very latest in affordable communications—and a dramatic leap forward from earlier generations of technology,” commented Andrew Geist, Aircell senior vice-president for business aviation solutions.
