Oprah mentions Private Jets in Duke Graduation ceremony

May 12, 2009

On most occasions, she is considered as the voice of the middle class. However, Oprah explained a different side of her life to the graduating class of Duke University.

She told students that it’s “great to have nice homes.” Oprah also mentioned that “anyone that tells you that having your own private jet isn’t great is lying to you.”

While some may see her speech as mistimed, given the current status of the private jet in public opinion, it’s quite nice to see someone who has the guts to be honest about the perks of wealth. And perhaps her voice will resonate to the students, encouraging them to strive for the luxuries they want.

As of late, the private jet industry has been on the receiving end of public bashing. This has resulted into a fall out, leaving thousands jobless. With all the public bashing and economic issues, there now exists a pervasive feeling that traveling with a private jet is wrong. And the industry needs a little help, who better to provide that than Oprah, someone who has always had a soft spot for the underdog.
