Dassault lays off employees

June 6, 2009

France-based Dassault Falcon Jet Corp. will lay off 111 workers in Little Rock and 42 employees have taken an “early out” program, the company said Friday evening.

With the additional layoffs, the private jet manufacturer has now removed 2,100 employees.

Dassault operates a completion center at the Little Rock National Airport. The facility paints and completes the interiors of many company-manufactured jet models before they are delivered to customers.

John Rosanvallon, the company’s president and CEO, addressed the media and the workers in a press release. He said: “Each and every person affected by this layoff has been a valued member of our team and helped to contribute to our growth and success.”

He continued, “While we recognize the unfortunate impact this decision has on our employees and their families, we must face the reality of today’s market conditions and the significant challenges they pose to our industry.”

Dassault Falcon Jet Corp. is not alone. All private jet manufacturers have suffered because of the recession and negative public opinion.

Hawker Beechcraft Corp. of Wichita, Kansas, has undergone a series of layoffs since the beginning of the year. Recently, the jet manufacturer announced mandatory furloughs for some of its employees. Hawker said that it will cut 2,300 employees by the end of the year.
