The Queen plans to buy private jet to reduce travel costs

July 7, 2009

After the latest travel audit, the royal family was found to have spent over £193,000 on chartering flights during the past year. Now, Buckingham Palace is considering buying a private jet for the Queen to reduce travel costs.

Senior officials from the Palace are currently discussing the plans whether to buy or lease a plane. They will decide next March whether to continue the proposal.

Typically, a second hand jet BAe in today’s market costs £3 million.

Last year, Prime Minister Gordon Brown cancelled a private jet purchase that he would’ve shared with the Queen. The £13 million acquisition was cancelled to shave costs.

Until next year, the Queen will continue to travel on chartered flights.
