General Mills lends private jet for Haiti relief effort

February 5, 2010

General Mills sent its private jet to help deliver medical supplies to Haiti earthquake victims.

The effort was led by two of the company’s senior executives: Marc Belton and Chris Shea. The two received a note from Dartmouth College President Jim Yong Kim, who is the founder of Partners in Health—an organization that has strong ties to Haiti. The note asked for transportation help.

With the blessing of the company heads, Belton and Shea arranged for the company’s private het to be sent to the Dartmouth campus in Hanover.

The eight-seat Cessna jet landed in Port-au-Prince airport.

Apart from the jet, General Mills also donated $250,000 to Red Cross and Care International for the Haiti relief efforts.
