Airport officials at Sardy Field commend quiet private jets

February 18, 2010

Airport officials are planning to send certificates of achievement to the quietest private jet operators to pass through Sardy Field in 2009.

The airport’s Fly Quiet Program identified 176 single aircraft operators, who scored high on the official’s noise rating scale last year.

Getting the commendations to the plane owners will prove to be a difficult task, explained airport director Jim Elwood. Typically, owners have a predilection toward registering their planes to limited liability companies for the benefit of their privacy and tax bills.

Commissioner Rachel Richards also suggested that the airport send notices to operators who scored poorly in the Fly Quiet Program.

For 2009, the airport reported an average of 5.3 high-noise events per week at Sardy Field. The airport said that the loud jet sounds decreased significantly for 2009.
