GM CEO still flies on private jet

March 9, 2010

At the end of 2009, General Motors (GM) got rid of its corporate jets. However, Edward Whitacre Jr.—the company CEO—still continues to fly in a private jet.

The plane is not billed on GM. It is actually paid for by Whitacre’s former employer: AT&T.

Whitacre arranged for the plane when he transferred to GM last year. This luxury costs $20,000 for AT&T.

However, this travel arrangement has come under criticism. People are saying that Whitacre’s plane privileges should be suspended until he quits for GM.

GM says that the CEO does not use the plane to conduct GM business, and AT&T has yet to release a comment on the issue.
