Environmental advocates say that extra taxes should be applied to private jets, because these planes emit 10 times more greenhouse gases compared per person in scheduled flights.
The Campaign for Better Transport says that private jet users, who do not pay passenger duties, should be charged as much as commercial travelers.
The campaign used figures and statistics from popular business airports to illustrate the CO2 emissions of private jets.
The figures pointed out that more than 67,000 private jet flights were exempted from taxes for 2009.
“The lion’s share of pollution comes from jet planes,” explained a spokesman for the advocacy. “Propeller planes tend to fly less frequently, and not very far. Some business travellers rely on jet planes to get places quickly a few times a week.”
