French minister questioned for using private jet

March 31, 2010

Alain Joyandet, the French development minister, was forced to justify spending over 100,000 euros on a private jet to travel to a conference in Haiti.

Joyandet travelled from Paris to the Martinique last Monday aboard a leased Falcon private jet from Masterjet. He returned to Paris in the following evening.

According to the minister’s aides, Joyandet wanted to make sure that he would be back to Paris by Wednesday morning for the first meeting with President Sarkozy and the reshuffled cabinet.

“The minister had meetings on Monday in the afternoon and could only leave in the evening,” explained one of the Minister’s aides. “The French foreign ministry was presiding working meetings on Tuesday March 23 and he had to be there all day.”
