Private jet successfully lands after takeoff malfunction

June 1, 2010

A private jet safely landed at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport last Friday after its front wheel fell off during takeoff.

The jet, which carried two pilots and three passengers, took off from Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie at 2:20 PM. The pilots knew something was wrong with the plane upon takeoff, and the watchtower confirmed that the landing gear was damaged, explained Patrick Hogan—spokesperson for the Metropolitan Airports Commission.

The private jet circled for awhile to burn fuel, reducing the chances of catching fire once the plane made a landing attempt.

Following instruction from the Federal Aviation Administration, the jet landed on one of the airport’s parallel runways. This runway was picked for its length and its engineered landing system with crushable concrete, which is designed to stop planes.

The private jet landed at 4:10 PM. Fire trucks and ambulances were quick to the scene, but luckily no one was injured and the plane did not catch fire.

The Falcon 10 jet was destined for Fort Worth Texas.
