Ohio commemorates private aviation

July 17, 2010

Ohio joined other states in formally commemorating the economic impact of private aviation as Governor Ted Strickland proclaimed today “Aviation Industry Awareness Day.”

The state has over 17,000 jobs in private aviation, which produces an annual impact of more than $5 billion.

Private aviation companies doubled public relations efforts in the past year to counteract the negative press fueled by lawmakers and major airlines. Also, the industry was put under fire by the press, who said that private jets had no place in corporate budgets during the recession.

“Whether it’s aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions or our vast network of over 160 community airports statewide, aviation is a crucial part of our state and country’s infrastructure,” announced Governor Strickland in a press statement.

Strickland founded the Ohio Aerospace and Business Aviation Council last year to jump start the industry in the state.
